Sight Cast to Tailing Redfish in Pristine Flats and Back Lakes
Perhaps the least talked about of North America’s premier shallow water sight casting destinations, the Middle Texas Coast — specifically the area between Rockport and Corpus Christi — nonetheless offers world-class fly fishing for redfish, speckled trout and other species in a rich, sprawling estuary system.
Make no mistake — this isn’t easy fishing. Most days demand precise presentations to spooky fish in clear, ankle-deep water, plus a solid strip-strike, a cool head and smart line management after an eat.
The rewards, though, are commensurate with the challenge. Stalking tailing redfish in this one-of-a-kind habitat with renowned guide and professional photographer Capt. Tom Pennington is an experience you don’t forget.

When Everything Comes Together
I started dreaming about being a fly fishing guide when I was 15 years old, working part-time at a local fly shop in my hometown of Fort Worth. Life led elsewhere, though — to college and then on to a career as a photojournalist and sports photographer that took me to 50 different countries.
When I decided it was time to slow down and spend more time at home, I discovered that my old dream was still within reach. I earned my captain’s license and started guiding on the spectacular flats around Port Aransas and Rockport — the same flats I had been obsessed with since first fishing them almost 30 years earlier.
Today, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to not only be home with my family in a place that I love but also to spend my days on the water passing along some of the knowledge I’ve gained and sharing the magic of the Texas coast. Seeing anglers’ reactions when everything comes together is the icing on the cake.

“Capt. Tom provided an upscale experience with an amazing boat, high-end gear and loads of knowledge about the bay waters and fish. His patience and guidance really helped bring my fly fishing to the next level.”
