About Your Captain, Skiff and Gear

A lifelong angler, Capt. Tom Pennington grew up bass fishing around his native Fort Worth before discovering fly fishing while working part-time at a local fly shop in high school. In college, he fly fished the flats around Rockport and Port Aransas for the first time, and an obsession was born.

During a 27-year career as a professional photographer covering natural disasters, conflict, and the highest level of professional, collegiate, and Olympic sports around the globe, Pennington always returned to Texas. He and his wife's deep love of the Texas coast eventually evolved into relocating and finally calling Port Aransas home.

For Pennington, sight fishing the Texas flats — especially on the fly — is an experience to be savored from beginning to end. Catching fish is always a goal, but the opportunity to become immersed in this fascinating and beautiful ecosystem and to observe and interact with redfish and other species in such an up-close and personal way is just as special.
